UNINCORPORATE THE TOWN OF PETERSBURG
Due to public interest in unincorporating the Town of Petersburg TN, below you can register to sign the petition to unincorporate.
Tennesse Code Annotated 6-52-201 provides the procedure for abolishing a city charter.
If the voters of the Town of Petersburg were to vote to unincorporate, the 1 square mile area now known as the Town of Petersburg would be absorbed by Lincoln and Marshall Counties.
A petition with the signatures of at least 10% of the registered voters in Petersburg Municipal elections must be submited to the County election commission.
Once the signatures are verified by the county election commission, an election will be set.
Voters will have two choices.
CHARTER ( keep the town incorporated)
NO CHARTER (dissolve the charter and unincorporate)
Signing the petition simply means you want a referendum. Both those for and against retaining the city charter are encouraged to sign the petiton.
